Smoking Could Be Nearly Banned Everywhere in Kennesaw
In Georgia, more and more cities have been prohibiting smoking in almost all places excluding inside one’s home. The latest possible addition in the list is Kennesaw.
Dr. Cris Welsh has previously introduced a proposed ordinance before the City Council. This ordinance involved not just prohibition of tobacco smoking, but also electronic cigarettes. As the ordinance is still on its early stages, he council first wanted to discuss it with business owner. The council liked to know if the owners are okay with similar ordinances employed in other neighboring municipalities like DeKalb County and Savannah.
Not Like State Law
The state law includes a veto of smoking in restaurants, public pars, bars and other private indoor offices. This ban is different because it includes the modern electronic cigarettes.
Unfounded Vendetta On Ecigs
Many people are negatively reacting when legislators and regulators include ecigarettes under smoking ordinances. For them it is only justifiable to ban tobacco smoking as it can cause countless destruction not just to one’s health, but also to others and the environment.
Ecigs, however, are not proven harmful. Vapor Shop’s (in Dixie) owner David Owens believes so. In fact, many former smokers who were able to quit actually say their lives definitely became better since they used the electronic alternative.
Smokers think that not allowing them to smoke except in their own homes is a definite violation of their rights.
John Fitzrobert Webb said that he is against this move to ban tobacco use in public. This ban will limit the amount of space and number of places where smokers can enjoy their habit. Included in the ban are public buildings and essentially places where children might also commune, according to Welsh.
The last meeting of the council when this issue was tackled is just the presentation of the ban. A vote, according to Kennesaw will not come anytime soon.
