Community Assistance With Brownfield Redevelopment

Below is a list of resources and information on community assistance available to support remediation and hazardous waste clean up at Brownfield sites.

  • U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Brownfield Redevelopment Initiative [www.gsa.gov/Portal/gsa/ep/contentView.do?contentType=GSA_OVERVIEW&contentId=10033&noc=T] — Targets underutilized federal properties that can be redeveloped to leverage revitalization by local communities.
  • U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Worker Training Programs [www.niehs.nih.gov/wetp/program/brownfields.htm] — Provides support for the Brownfields Minority Worker Training Programs targeting showcase communities.
  • Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) [www.epa.gov/swerosps/bf/html-doc/cra.htm] — Lenders subject to the CRA can claim community development loan credits for loans made to help finance the environmental cleanup or redevelopment of an industrial site when it is part of an effort to revitalize the low- and moderate-income community. Under CRA regulations, lenders' CRA performance may be used as a basis for approving or denying activity in the banking industry.
