Targeted International Regions

One of the Iowa Department of Economic Development's International Office's most valued services is export-related, one-on-one counseling. The staff uses its background in the private sector along with their training to provide Iowa businesses with invaluable resources to identify such issues as product suitability, best markets, market entry strategies, viable trade shows, qualified contacts, distribution channels, trade barriers, export requirements, logistics, documentation and more.

Latin America

Companies can access individualized market research, identification of prospective business matches and coordination of business appointments by local experts in Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Mexico through the Latin America Trade Promotion program.

Various trade promotion programs, including trade missions, trade shows and catalog shows, are scheduled each year to enable companies to ease their market entry or expand market presence in Latin America. The Export Trade Assistance Program (ETAP) provides financial assistance to eligible Iowa firms wishing to enter new markets by participating in international trade shows and trade missions held outside the U.S.

Contact us to discuss your market potential and identify appropriate events or services targeted toward Latin America.

Japan

Japan is a very important export market for Iowa companies. Japan has the world's second-largest economy with a gross domestic product (GDP) nearly half that of the United States'. Japan's economy alone represents almost three-quarters of the entire Asian economy.

The Iowa Department of Economic Development (IDED) has operated an office in Tokyo since 1986. The office responds to inquiries from Japanese customers seeking trade opportunities with Iowa firms or who wish to invest directly in Iowa. The Japan Office is also ready to assist Iowa companies with:

  • Market research
  • Product feasibility analysis
  • Market entry and marketing strategies
  • Agent/distributor searches
  • Contacts and business appointments
  • Government relations and regulatory approvals

Contact us to discuss your market potential and appropriate events or services in Japan.

Europe

The Iowa Department of Economic Development's (IDED) International Office opened a European Office in Frankfurt, Germany in 1976 for the purpose of trade and reverse investment promotion. The office organizes participation in European trade shows, receives company delegations from Iowa, administers the Market Access Europe Trade Program (MAE) and conducts direct marketing campaigns, market research, trade show representation, one-on-one pre-qualified appointment settings and agent/distributor/representative searches for Iowa companies. Additional services are available upon request.

The Western European trade shows are some of the largest international trade shows in the world. Consumers as well as exhibitors come from virtually every country in the world to purchase or display their products in Europe. The IDED can assist you in locating the most appropriate trade show for your company as well as assist you while you are there. Through our European Office, a pre-show direct marketing campaign can be coordinated on your behalf to secure scheduled appointments while at the show. Financial assistance is available for eligible Iowa companies that participate in international trade shows. If your budget does not allow direct participation, one of our European representatives can work the show on your behalf.

For more information about your product's market potential, the MAE program, services provided by the European office, or programming (trade shows, trade missions and/or catalog show) in Europe, please contact us!
