Central City Population: 1,157
Central City is located in the heart of the industrial belt of Iowa and is surrounded
by picturesque farmland made famous by the artist Grant Wood. Situated on Highway
13, a no-nonsense four lane highway, just 15 miles north east of Cedar Rapids, Central
City provides residents a small town lifestyle with big city convenience just minutes
away.
Central City's greatest asset is its multitude of recreational opportunities provided
by the Wapsipinicon River flowing through the heart of the downtown. The Wapsipincon
River is flanked by Brendel City Park on both banks in the downtown district and
draws many fishermen year round and is considered one of the best canoeing rivers
in the area.
Central City retains the flavor of small town America through traditional events
such as its annual Memorial Day and 4th of July parades followed by downtown hog
roasts and street dances. A community that prides itself on small town traditions
and simple ways of life, Central City is a beautiful place to get away from the
hustle and bustle of everyday life. Visit Central City, "Your Nearest Faraway Place!"
