Marcus is proud to be one of Iowa's Main Street communities.  Located in the northwest corner of the state, Marcus enjoys a small town lifestyle with big town amenities such as a new million dollar swimming pool, top-notch school system, five churches and a state-of-the-art nursing home, care center and pharmacy. Marcus was named a Main Street community in October 1998.

The annual Marcus Fair, held the second week in August, creates memorable moments for young and old alike, and early November finds Fall Harvest Fest filling the streets of downtown.  Come be our guest.  Visit Marcus!

Town History

Marcus was founded in 1871. The community continues to be a prime location for livestock and grain production and to have excellent railroad transportation.

Downtown Marcus enjoys a well-rounded business mix that is uncommon for towns of 1,139 in today's world. A lumber yard, hardware store, flower shop, grocery store, appliance shop, library, pharmacy, law offices, banks and more provide friendly and personalized service.

Annual Events

  • August (second week) - Marcus Fair - Carnival, livestock shows, cooking demonstrations, style show, live entertainment and more. Free admission.
  • November - Fall Harvest Fest - Activities for all ages abound in downtown Marcus.
